Wigan Walking Football Club (Wigan Walkers) was born in 2014 out of a council initiative to improve men's health across the Wigan Borough. The formation of the Club quickly followed as the development and popularity of walking football spread across the country. The sport is aimed predominantly at men over 50 years of age and ladies over 40. Wigan has its own Ladies Walking Football Team (Wigan Lionesses).
Our main session normally takes place indoors in the Wigan Athletic Academy building, home of the Wigan Athletic Community Trust, on Wednesdays from 9.45a.m. for 10:30-12.00 games. Coffee/tea are available before and after the session to encourage social interaction between the members.
We play outdoors when the Academy building is unavailable to us and also on Fridays 10.00-12.00.
